Based in Barrancabermeja, on the shores of the Magdalena river, this team works in most of the region’s main towns. It covers areas of Santander, south Bolivar and Antioquia (among others)and also makes regular visits to Bucaramanga and Cucuta.

Grassroots Women’s Organization (OFP)
Established 1972, in Barrancabermeja, where it is still based, the OFP works with the displaced: running professional workshops, raising awareness, offering medical and psychological treatment, and also providing legal aid.

Luis Carlos Perez Lawyers Collective (CALCP)
The 'Luis Carlos Perez' Lawyers Collective was created in 2001 with the objective of contributing to:

  • Social change to bring about justice, equality and social equity.
  • The defense of human rights and protection of local villages.
  • Accompaniment of victims fighting for their basic human rights.

The CALCP offers legal and educational accompaniment, and strengthens the organisation of displaced communities in Catatumbo and other regions in Northeast Colombia. It works to support local communities seeking vindication. www.colectivodeabogadosluiscarlosperez.org

Regional Corporation for the Defence of Human Rights (CREDHOS)
CREDHOS was created in 1987 to raise awareness, create social forums for humanitarian work and defend Barrancabermeja and Magdalena Medio inhabitants’ human rights. www.credhos.org.co

PBI is in regular contact with the following NGOs and Organisations from Magdalena Medio:
Cimitarra Valley Rural Association, Adodesamuba, Asorvimm, USO and Sinaltrainal, the International Board of the Magdalena Medio Fellowship (MIC), the Barrancabermeja Pastoral Social, the Development and Peace Program in Magdalena Medio (PDPMM), the Program for Life and Peace (Diócesis), the Jesuit Service of Refugees. It is also an observing member in the Workers’ Human Rights Forum (ETTTTDDHH).
