David Ravelo, economist, human rights defender and member of the Regional Corporation for the Defence of Human Rights (CREDHOS), has been imprisoned since September 2010. Ravelo faces the charge of aggravated homicide, based upon the testimony of the former paramilitary leader Mario Jaime Mejía, alias "El Panadero," processed under the Justice and Peace Law, which has served as a mechanism for the demobilization of nearly 30,000 paramilitaries in Colombia. Alias "El Panadero is the confessed material author of the massacre committed in Barrancabermeja on May 16, 1998.
